Our team includes Chartered Mineral and Waste Surveyors with decades of experience across consultancy, industry and government. Together we provide one of the most experienced specialist mineral surveying teams advising clients across the UK.
Mark is a Chartered Mineral and Waste Surveyor and Registered Valuer with specialist expertise in the mineral and waste industry. With more than 28 years’ experience, Mark until recently led Wardell Armstrong’s Mineral Estates Team in Newcastle. Mark has extensive experience in mineral estate management, the negotiation of mineral and waste agreements, mineral ownership, mineral and waste valuations including compulsory purchase and mining code claims. Mark is experienced in providing advice on severed mineral interests affecting surface developments and has represented clients at the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber).

Charles Riddell

Charles is a Chartered Mineral and Waste Surveyor, Chartered Mining Engineer, and Chartered Waste Manager with an MSc in Contaminated Land Management and more than 35 years of experience in the minerals and waste management sectors, including 22 years at Director level. He has extensive expertise in mineral and waste estate management, valuation, acquisitions, mineral assessments and ownership (including acting as expert witness), commercial contract and lease negotiations, project management, strategic planning, planning and environmental compliance, and operational delivery. Charles brings a unique perspective and strong commercial focus formed from many years in the sector.
Peter is a Chartered Mineral and Waste Surveyor with a Master of Laws degree in Mineral Law and Policy. He has over 40 years of experience in the minerals industry, mainly in the UK but also overseas. He specialises in the development and management of mineral resources, mineral ownership, mineral and mining rights and mineral property interests. Amongst other roles, Peter was previously a Partner and Technical Director at Wardell Armstrong, where he led the Mineral Estates Management Team in Newcastle upon Tyne and was responsible for the management of a large and diverse minerals portfolio with numerous mineral owning clients and landed estates. Peter is a specialist minerals advisor.

Alun Jones

Alun has over 40 years’ experience in the mining and minerals industry, qualifying as a Mining Engineer during his time with British Coal and then as a Mineral and Waste Surveyor whilst with the Valuation Office Agency. Alun has vast experience in mineral and waste valuations for a range of purposes including acquisitions, disposals, lease negotiations, rating, taxation and compulsory purchase. He was previously Head of Mineral Surveying in the Valuation Office Agency where he led a multi-disciplinary team responsible for both national and local taxation matters throughout the UK.
